Uses of Semaglutide:
Semaglutide is sold under the trade name Rybelsus. The medicine Semaglutide is commercially supplied in 3 mg tablets, 7 mg tablets, and 14 mg tablets. Posology of Semaglutide:
The starting semaglutide dosage is 3 mg once daily for 1 month. After 1 month, increase the dose to a maintenance dose of Semaglutide 7 mg once a day. After at least 1 month with a dose of 7 mg once a day, increase the dose to a maintenance dose of Semaglutide 14 mg once a day to further improve glycaemic control.
The maximum proposed single daily dose is Semaglutide 14 mg. Do not take two tablets of Semaglutide 7 mg to achieve the effect of a 14 mg dose.
When semaglutide tablet is used together with metformin or SGLT2i or thiazolidinedione, the current dose of metformin or SGLT2i or thiazolidinedione can be continued.
When semaglutide is used together with sulfonylurea or with insulin, reduce the dose of sulfonylurea or insulin in order to scale down the probability of hypoglycaemia.
Blood-glucose self-monitoring is not required in order to adjust the semaglutide dose. This monitoring is required to adjust sulfonylurea and insulin doses, specifically when semaglutide uses are started and insulin is scaled down. A stepwise way to reduce insulin is recommended.
Method of administration:
Semaglutide comes as an oral tablet for once-daily use. It should be taken on an empty stomach at any time of the particular day. Swallow the pills whole through a sip of water. Do not split, crush or chew, as it is not specified whether this affects the absorption of semaglutide. Respective patients need to wait at least 30 minutes prior to eating or consuming other oral medicines. Waiting less than 30 minutes may be responsible for decreasing the absorption of this medicine.
