History of Exemestane

Exemestane (Aromasin) falls under the family of antiestrogens named aromatase inhibitors. It is a kind of medication, recommended in order to treat breast cancer.

Certain breast cancers need estrogen in order to grow. Those cancers have ERs (Estrogen Receptors), and are known as ER +Ve. They can also be named estrogen responsive, hormonally responsive, or hormone receptor +Ve.

The exemestane 25 mg specifically is an enzyme that is involved in synthesizing the estrogen. Aromatase inhibitors basically block the synthesis of the estrogen. This reduces the level of estrogen, and resists the growth of cancers.

In the month of October, 1999, Exemestane was initially approved by FDA in order to treat advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women whose disease has progressed after the therapy of tamoxifen.

In the month of October, 2005, Exemestane was approved for adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with estrogen receptor +Ve early breast cancer who've received 2-3 years of tamoxifen and are switched to the exemestane in order to make up for a total of 5 consecutive years of the adjuvant hormonal therapy.

The exemestane price in india is around 2,397 INR for a supply of 10 tablets, depending on the wholesaler/pharmacy you visit. Any WHO-GDP & ISO certified pharmaceutical wholesaler company would be best to buy Exemestane.
