WHAT IS TARGETED THERAPY? DOES IT CURE LUNG CANCER?

Targeted therapy is also known as molecularly targeted therapy and is mainly used in the treatment of cancer.

This basically works by blocking the growth and invasiveness of cancer cells by interfering the specified targeted molecules which are needed for tumor growth and carcinogenesis.

In targeted therapy the major agents are biopharmaceuticals. Thus antibody-drug conjugates into targeted therapy that binds to tumor cells and eliminates it from the body.

Targeted Therapy For Lung Cancer:

In this type of therapy, the selective proteins cause damage to lung cancer cells and very few toxic effects on healthy or normal cells.

Targeted therapy in the case of lung cancer works by modulating the effect of protein of lung cancerous cells that are responsible for uncontrolled growth, angiogenesis, invasiveness, etc.

Cure of Lung Cancer:

There are several lung cancer medications, which are carrying the potential in order to cure lung cancer. Some of are listed as follows:

Chemotherapy - This treatment includes injecting anti-cancerous medications, directly into a vein or consuming orally. This drug via bloodstream reaches to every part of the body and kills cancer everywhere. Chemotherapy is used in different stages:

  • Before the surgery to shrink the tumor

  • After surgery to kill the cancer cells.

Chemotherapy is not given to a person of poor health.

Immunotherapy - Human body blocks the function of cancerous cells and strengthens its immune system.

Surgery: In surgery, the piece of tumor is cut-off and is eliminated.

Radiation therapy: The cancerous cells are destroyed by the use of X rays or protons.

Medications: The activities of cancerous cells are inhibited by the use of several types of Medications. Elaboration of some of such medications are enlisted below:

Erlotinib 150 mg Tablets: This drug is mostly preferred to the patients of Non-small cell lung cancer or the cancer at the advanced stage. Erlotinib 150mg drug has the property of anti-cancerous effects. This medication is recommended to be used orally either before or after the meal.

Some major points should be keep in mind before using the erlotinib tablet are:

  • Not used in combination with chemotherapy.

  • Safety and efficacy is avoided.

  • This Medication is only allowed for people of above 18 years. This drug should be avoided by pregnant women.

Gefitinib 250 mg Tablets: Gefitinib is the drug used in the treatment of Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It is a kinase inhibitor. This is mostly recommended to be used at 250 mg concentration depending upon the stage of cancer.
